Daiton Somanje to be remembered


MARONDERA will tonightreverberate with music as established and upcoming artistes perform at the memorial service of the late Pengaudzoke frontman Daiton Somanje at his Rusike home.


Somanje died last month in hospital of meningitis.

Somanje’s son, Faheem, told NewsDay that after the night of music, there would be a church service.

“The memorial service is on tomorrow (tonight) until Saturday. On Friday night I will be leading Pengaudzoke in entertaining those who are going to attend. It is a mini gala in honour of my father,” he said.

“On Saturday we have a church service at home and that will conclude the proceedings.”

Daiton, who died aged 50, had a successful music career that started in the early 80s. Together with his sibling Josphat, they formed Pengaudzoke, one of the most renowned sungura ensembles in the country.

Pengaudzoke is well known for the hit songs Seiko Kuonda, Sahwira and Tsaona, among many others.
