Born on May 27 1983 in Saruwe, Chegutu, Sulu will turn a year older tomorrow and will be joined by various artistes across genres, promoters and other partners in celebrating his birthday in style.

Event organiser, Wanisai Mutandwa, popularly known as Mahwindo in the showbiz circles, said the birthday party dubbed Sulu and Friends is a must-attend as it is pregnant with surprises.

“As a sign of gratitude, we have decided to organise a bash that will give fans a chance to celebrate together with their favourite musician as they mix and mingle with him,” Mahwindo said.

“It is these fans who have stood by Sulu since the time he ventured into the music industry so they deserve to be part of the celebrations. Zimbabweans from all walks of life must come in their numbers to celebrate with Sulu.”

Sulu’s publicist Joe “Local” Nyamungoma said it felt good to celebrate such an occasion with their legions of fans.

“Some of our fans hardly get the opportunity to be up-close with Sulu at our live shows and on Wednesday (tomorrow) we will provide them with the chance to interact with him on a personal level as we recognise their unwavering support that has seen us rising to be where we are today in the music industry,” Nyamungoma said.

“We salute local promoters for showing confidence in us through their continual support of the dendera brand.”

Nyamungoma said a number of shows would be lined up across the country to celebrate with their fans.

Like wine, Sulu, son of the late music icon Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu, has matured in the music circles.

He has signed several lucrative endorsement deals and has been appointed brand ambassador by many corporates. Sulu has won several awards and has performed in Botswana, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, United Kingdom, Seychelles and Ghana and many other countries.

At present Sulu has recorded five albums namely Ndomusiya Nani, Reverse Deal, Non-Stop, Syllabus and Gunship.
