Mahachi said he was honoured by the invitation and his performance will mark a defining moment in his music career.

“I am so excited to be part this festival to perform at a grand stage. It’s an honour and I thank God for everything happening in my life,” he said, adding that the festival was the first of its kind in Africa.

“It felt great. The response was just awesome. They liked the singing in Shona here.”

The launch, which ran under the theme “Praising God the African Way, with Africans in Africa” saw many celebrated artists including Thina Zungu, Sifiso Ncwane and DJ Tira performing.

The South African Arts and Culture ministry and The Kwazulu Natal municipality supported the launch.

Mahachi who is riding high in gospel circles with his album Declarations he launched this year shared the stage with Sifiso Ncwane of South Africa and he did not disappoint as he left many clamouring for more.

“People did not want me to leave the stage, it’s very difficult to leave the stage when people need more of your performance” said the excited Mahachi from South Africa.

Some of the songs he performed include Naye Jesu, Ndiye Nzira and Ndinoda Jesu which he collaborated with Ncwane on his latest album, Declarations.

Ncwane, who was one of the organisers of the event, said: “It’s all about African gospel singers coming together in one house to showcase their talents the African way. As Africans we are one and we are uniting through music.”
