BREAKING into the music scene in 2010 as backing vocalists for Peace Ndlovu, popularly known as Ba Shupi, the duo of Kudzanai “Swurv” Mapfumo and Tatenda Kwaramba has resurfaced with a six-track Zimdancehall compilation album titled MaBoss set for official launch on May 28.

The launch is scheduled for Dandaro Inn at an event which will see the Mabvuku duo performing with their band, K-squad, alongside renowned musician Rockford “Roki” Josphats, Nesto and DJ Cavassy.

Mapfumo said he was very confident about the collection which he believes will set a new tone in the genre.

“We were trying to diversify as versatile artistes and we were crossing the boards by mixing RnB and dancehall on locally made riddims,” he said.

“The compilation will make a great impact because we have worked with different renowned producers who are already established in the industry.”

Mapfumo added that they had decided to cast their nets wider by starting with a band (K-squad) to promote their marque as opposed to other artistes who struggled to harness bands.

“We have worked with quite a number of artistes in the past and thus have gained experience from it and that has helped us to create music that is relevant for the market with the assistance of a band.

“We figured that it is more professional to brand ourselves as artistes we needed to play mature music which one needs to use live instruments in order to satisfy fans,” he added.

The duo is also currently working on a 10-track album which will be released in September this year amid a seeming rise in the need for bands by Zimdancehall artistes to widen fan bases.
