Speaking at the handover ceremony held on Tuesday, NAGZ chief curator Raphael Chikukwa applauded the partnership.

“The public is welcome to use the facility. The gallery is still undergoing renovations and we will be painting the library soon,” Chikukwa said.

“Some of the equipment we have acquired using the funds from our partners (Culture Fund) includes a copier, scanner and several desktop computers that can be used for research purposes by members of the public and the artists.”

Speaking to NewsDay on the sidelines of the handover ceremony, NAGZ librarian Joseph Fushayi said many people would benefit from the automation of the library.

“We will soon have an online catalogue that will enable people who intend to visit our library to know what books we have without visiting the gallery,” Fushayi said.

“Artists and members of the public are welcome to use our Internet free of charge for research purposes, but soon we may have to charge a nominal fee that will act as a way of regulation measure.” Culture Fund executive director Fungai Mpfunya said the automation of the library was a major step for the library, but said there was still more to be done at the gallery.
