BY KUDZAI CHITSATSO CHORAL outfit Spirit Praise on Friday night hosted their gospel singing competition dubbed Vocal Jewel Season 1 in Harare.

The singing competition, which left five finalists out of 10 drawn across the city, was won by Tinayeishe Sherpherd Chivandire who walked away with US$500 and a recording deal from Spirit Praise choir.

Munashe Rose Ndoma and Munashe Rose Ndoma came first and second runners up and pocketed US$300 and US$200 respectively as well as recording deal from Spirit Praise choir.

Chivandire was grateful for winning and after utilising everything he has been taught.

“It has been a long journey and I have been learning and today I have managed to utilise everything I was learning,” he said.

“I am looking forward to our new journey with Spirit Praise.”

Spirit Praise director Learnmore Tavengwa highlighted the purpose of the Jewel Vocal to Standard Style.

“When we talk about Vocal Jewel, we are talking about a best vocal singer or vocal delivery. So me being a gospel artist, I will be looking for the best voice to worship the Lord,” he said

“We have noticed that there are musicians that are good but they are not singing gospel music whereas gospel artists are supposed to be on top others have to follow.

“So this is the reason why we came up with the Jewel Vocal where we are saying that we need to scrutinize and see how best we can up our gospel music game.

“This is the first edition. We have about 200 people who came to support the concert and we are looking forward to season 2 that is going to be streamed soon.”

Tavengwa said he was now preparing the winners for the world in their choir.

“So now looking at this as our finals of the vocal jewel we are now starting to prepare the winners for the real world. The real work is now beginning where I will be polishing them,” he said

“You see that jewelry is something that goes through an immense heart, polishing in the process until it becomes shiny and beautiful.”

“Now that we have got our jewel we are beginning to polish them and nurture them into the gospel music industry.”

The director said the Jewel Vocals started in March first round, the second round in April and this Friday it was the finals.
