The 31-year-old South Africa-based Afrojazz sensation, blending modern instruments and fresh jazz sounds with traditional African rhythms, kept the audience enthralled throughout the entire show.

During the performance of the song Chipo Changu, Meck for a moment traded his lead vocalist position for his six-string left-handed electric bass, equipped with a cordless device, walking off stage into the captivated audience, showcasing his prowess on the guitar.

Meck who released his first album Wanetsa in 2010 and Time in 2013 said the two albums catapulted him to greater heights for they carried hit songs.

Some of the songs included Muzambiringa and Vanobata. The Prince Edward tutored crooner said all his albums were receiving fair play on radio proving that Jazz music is taking shape in Zimbabwe.

“I feel happy and honoured to be part of this year’s Hifa performance,” Meck said after the show.

Meck who performed to a full house found time to sell and market his albums he had brought signing autographs to thrilled fans. The joyful Meck said his next album called Artistry will be released at the end of May and he promised his fans great stuff. The youthful crooner said he will be touring Austria soon where he has been invited due to popular demand by the people there. “Beginning of June I am going for a tour again in Austria,” he said emphatically.

Josh who is a born again Christian said his inspiration is drawn from musicians like Oliver Mtukudzi and others.

Over the years he has worked with great artistes such as the late Chiwoniso Maraire, Comrade Fatso and Hope Masike, among others. Meck, who is also internationally acclaimed, has collaborated with the likes of Asali (Kenya), Mike Del Ferro (Netherlands) and South African Nomsa Mazwai.
