The promotion for the Vaseline products which have been in the local market for more than 50 years will be giving away cash and prizes amounting to a staggering $200 000 in what is set to be the biggest campaign.
Speaking at the launch in Harare, Unilever Southern Africa brand building director Juliet Ziswa said this year the brand would, in addition to prizes, introduce “Heal her Pamper Centre” in a bid to educate local women on skin care and its pertinence.
“We will introduce the Heal Her Pamper Centre where women can enjoy hand and foot massages and demonstrations on the healing and restorative power of the Vaseline range. These will not only empower women with the necessary knowledge on the skin and skincare, but it will also help to increase self-esteem and ultimately confidence,” Ziswa said.
Ziswa also highlighted that Unilever was concerned with providing suitable products for local people thus they were also launching a new range of products.
“We have decided to improve our products and standards as a brand, in doing so we are providing what we call Afrocentricity, focusing on the requirements of the African market,” she said.
Skin analyst Kuda Mupawose-Manyepwa lauded the initiative by Vaseline saying it was important for firms which sold lotions to do the same and help educate society about the skin which was a requisite body part.
“The skin holds a human being together and you cannot live without it so companies should desist from prioritising profits while failing to teach on products really needed to protect and sustain different skin types,” she said.
Last year’s promotion saw customers winning $175 000 in cash and prizes while Unilever donated blankets and winter clothing to Mathew Rusike Children’s Home.
