“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) would like to warn motorists and all road users that police officers would be deployed in full force on all the country’s major highways,” chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said.

“The ZRP would therefore like to warn all motorists to observe road rules and regulations and ensure that their motor vehicles are roadworthy for carrying passengers and goods.”

She said police would also be checking for stolen motor vehicles, minerals, criminals, cattle rustlers and drug traffickers.

Charamba said police would be jointly working with the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and Vehicle Inspection Department to ensure an accident-free holiday.

At least 20 people died in road accidents during last year’s Easter holidays.
