Councilor for Ward 29 Josphat Kamwendo and Dennis Nyamubudu (56), who received money from eight home-seekers on the pretext that they will assist them in securing residential stands denied the allegations before Marondera magistrate Josephine Sande who remanded them out of custody on $50 bail.

They were remanded to April 14.

According to court papers, Kamwendo and Nyamubudu of Nyazema high-density suburb were in the habit of milking some cash from unsuspecting prospective home- seekers by asking them to pay some varying amounts of cash so that they could facilitate the deal.

The State alleges that in August 2011, the suspects swindled four people of various amounts of money using the same modus operandi.

One of the complainants, Nolina Mupotsa (42), of Monte Casino who was looking for a residential stand allegedly lost $1 000 in the scam.

After realising that she had been duped, Mupotsa reported the matter to the police, leading their arrest. Babra Mabika prosecuted.
