Inflation rate gains in March

THE year-on-year inflation rate for the month of March gained 0,19 percentage points on February figures to -1,20%.

THE year-on-year inflation rate for the month of March gained 0,19 percentage points on February figures to -1,20%, latest statistics from Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstats) have shown. In February annual inflation was -1,40%.

The statistics showed that prices as measured by all items Consumer Price Index decreased by an average of -1,20 percentage points between March 2014 and March 2015.

The year-on-year inflation rate is given by the percentage change in the index of the relevant month of the current year compared with the index of the same month in the previous year.

Zimstats said the year-on-year food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation prone to transitory shocks stood at -2,77% while the non-food inflation rate was -0,44%.
