Several police officers in Mashonaland West are under fire accused for being sympathetic to Mliswa.

Police sources said some officers had been transferred while others could face suspension.

Sources said Hurungwe Dispol Senior Assistant Commissioner Albert Mandizha was transferred to Kariba, while the Magunje officer-in-charge, who was only identified as Mugwidi, was deployed to the police provincial headquarters in Chinhoyi last week under a cloud.

Sources said the transfers were with immediate effect after the officers failed to nail down and cause Mliswa’s prosecution following his arrest for “disrupting” a Zanu PF rally at Sengwe business centre the previous week.

Mliswa, who is campaigning to retain the seat as an independent candidate, was eventually released without charge after spending two nights in police custody.

Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara, however, dismissed the reports as untrue, but sources said most police officers were now living in fear of being labelled sympathetic to a faction of Zanu PF “rebels” led by former Vice-President Joice Mujuru.
