FC PLATINUM target and Burundian international Fiston Abdul Razak has reportedly made the grade at South African Premiership football giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

Razak was on the FC Platinum shopping list after a commendable performance for his Kenyan side Sofapaka during the two sides’ clash in the Caf Confederation Cup first round which the Zimbabwean side won 4-2 on aggregate.

Sources yesterday indicated that Sundowns are now likely to sign the Razak (23) when they transfer window opens in July. “We understand he made the grade at Sundowns. He is one player we wanted,” the sources said.

KickOff revealed on April 2 that Razak was on trial at Chloorkop — the Sundowns headquarters.

Razak has been linked with a move to the Brazilians and a KickOff.com source confirmed that the striker had been training with the club recently and also played in a friendly.

“You mean Fiston from Burundi? Yeah, he has been training with us and even scored in a friendly match we played recently. I can’t complain, he is not bad. The last time I saw him was on Tuesday,” the source told the website early this month.

FC Platinum have been struggling in front of goal this season. Donald Ngoma, their most trusted hitman, has been firing blanks. Ngoma was accosted by fans after the 2-1 loss to Harare City on Wednesday at Rufaro Stadium where they accused him of deliberately missing chances to sabotage coach Norman Mapeza.

Zambian international Obrey Chirwa has not been coming in with goals for Platinum, who have lost three matches, drawn once and won once in the 2015 Premier Soccer League campaign.

Nelson Mazivisa has been plagued by injuries while Brian Muzondiwa, Walter Musona and Wisdom Mutasa need an experienced hand to guide them up front. With 15 appearances and three goals for Burundi national team, and having appeared at the African Nations Championships (Chan) 2014 in South Africa, Razak is a typical out-and-out striker. He was part of the Burundi squad that finished third in their group behind Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo during the 2014 Chan tournament and was on the scoresheet when Burundi beat Mauritania 3-2 on January 18 2014 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

He started off his career at LLB Academic FC, where he spent five years between 2009 and 2014, before moving Kenya in June of the same year, winning the FA Cup with Sofapaka which qualified them for this year’s Caf Confederation Cup.

Meanwhile, FC Platinum will today seek to get their campaign back on track when they face their ex-coach Lloyd Mutasa’s Hwahwa at Ascot Stadium. Norman Mapeza’s men have lost three times in five starts, managing just one win and a draw.
