Comment: Zanu PF on final looting spree?

Opinion & Analysis
REPORTS that Zanu PF functionaries have invaded a prime piece of land owned by the Anglican Church are all but saddening given Zimbabwe is battling to build a new image as a reformed State on the international scene.

REPORTS that Zanu PF functionaries have invaded a prime piece of land owned by the Anglican Church are all but saddening given Zimbabwe is battling to build a new image as a reformed State on the international scene.

Is it not true that every bad news comes from Zimbabwe due to Zanu PF’s uncaring policies, at a time the party should be embracing every idea that will make the country great regardless of political affiliation, tribe or creed?

Yet, party youths have no idea their actions simply serve to confirm the unsavoury truth that the ruling party is hurtling towards its demise, with no regard for the rule of law and respect for property rights.

That this has been left to continue especially on open pieces of land mainly around major urban centres speaks to the prevailing leadership crisis in Zanu PF.

Sadly, the ultimate losers have always been unsuspecting home-seekers, who have been made to lose their hard-earned cash on the understanding that the land sales are genuine.

In most cases it has been established that there are always powerful political figures behind the land invasions. It is also the politicians that will facilitate registration of the land even without title only because of the position one holds in Zanu PF.

With the fissures in the party widening following the unceremonious departure of top figures such as former Vice-President Joice Mujuru, former secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa and ex-spokesperson Rugare Gumbo, among others, Zimbabwe can expect anything to happen as party activists fall over each other to benefit from the Zanu PF gravy train through unscrupulous means.

Most in Zanu PF are aware that the winds of change are blowing fast and would want to grab as much as they can before they are blown off the stage. Clearly, the prevailing situation in Zanu PF is a manifestation of a party that has outlived its usefulness. No doubt that President Robert Mugabe has lost control and everyone around him is trying to grab whatever is available before their time comes to a screeching halt.

Is it not Mugabe who has encouraged this lawlessness to prevail in the country by choosing to apply the law selectively? We believe Mugabe must rein in his party functionaries to save the country.

Zanu PF must ensure that property rights are protected, by driving the party activists off private property. Mugabe must at least lead by example. He must dig deeper and establish where all this is coming from.

If need be, arrest those behind the invasion of private properties across the country.

We believe that government should focus on putting the country on the international map for purposes of investment. Zimbabwe needs favourable investment policies to enable the people to create wealth and fulfil their aspirations.

It is time to rebuild the country for the benefit of everybody through respect of rule of law and property rights.
