OVER 300 workers at Zimbabwe Beverages Merchandising Company (ZMBC) are up in arms with their employer whom they accused of failing to remit their PAYE, National Social Security Authority (NSSA) and union contributions to the relevant authorities since 2010.

The workers claim they had twice checked with NSSA where they were told that their names did not appear on the authority’s register although the deductions reflected on their payslips each month.
ZMBC is a contracted merchandiser for Delta Corporation.
“We started working for this company in 2010, and deductions are made from our salaries monthly as shown on our payslips for the past four and a half years, but the money is not submitted to NSSA offices,” read the statement by the workers.
“As the workers’ committee, we went to NSSA Pension Fund offices on March 2 seeking our numbers for future use, but our names were not even there, even the names of our company Winds Co-operative or ZBMC does not exist in their files.”
The workers also claimed in their statement to have approached their principal company Delta Beverage Zimbabwe trying to rectify the issue, but it was fruitless.
“We are now not sure if our company submitted our contributions to the National Employment Council, our PAYE to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and Aids levy deductions to government hence investigations are needed with urgency.”

ZMBC director Ebson Makuvise refuted the claims on Monday and promised to provide documents to prove that the company remitted the workers’ contributions, but had not done so at the time of going to print yesterday.
