Dokora was speaking at the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards Competition (Essay Category) ceremony held at Hellenic Academy on Monday where he was the guest speaker.

He said: “When I defend their (children) right to harness technology I get flak”, adding: “The ministry prioritises technological development and its use in everyday life. This is in line with the provision of the ZimAsset blueprint. It is quite retrogressive to try to fight technology.”

The competition was won by Joseph Mahiya from Hellenic Academy. Recently Dokora came under fire for advocating the use of cellphones in schools. Some parents feel that the gadgets will distract the pupils, even promote indiscipline and laziness. Some argued, pupils would not research or learn anything but search the Internet for answers.
