Two of the seriously injured were rushed to Gokwe North District Hospital where their condition was said to be stable.

According to witnesses, the driver of the bus was speeding and lost control as he approached a busy vegetable market close to the terminus.

“The bus was speeding and veered off the road crushing the woman who was at a mobile money transfer booth. A few other women who were selling various wares were also injured,” said Oliver Hove, who witnessed the accident.

Hove said the bus smashed the booth before it rammed into a tree following which the driver took to his heels.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko could not be reached for comment yesterday.
