Jabulani Sawana was convicted on his own plea of guilty for contravening section 44 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, chapter 9:23 – making a police false report.

He, however, risks a 30-day jail term should he fail to raise the fine.

Public prosecutor Donald Mudadirwa told the court that sometime on an unknown date in November last year, Sawana collected $830 from Ecocash subscribers at the mission school and converted it into his personal use.

To cover up his tracks, Sawana filed a false robbery report at ZRP Mutare Central. He claimed that he had been robbed along Chimanimani – Mutare Road by unknown people who had given him a lift.

However, police investigations proved that the report was false.
