Blessing Mupariwa made the claims during mitigation before he was slapped with a three-month jail term for escaping from lawful custody.

Mupariwa said prison officers forced him to carry 40 litres of water over a distance of 2km to the wardens’ homes each day. He bolted out of prison after serving half of his six-month jail term for assault. The court ordered him to complete his sentence in Harare. Hezel Kondo prosecuted.
