Biti scoffs at Renewal Team MPs recall

MDC Renewal Team secretary-general Tendai Biti yesterday scoffed at plans by the MDC-T to have all MPs in his camp recalled from Parliament.

MDC Renewal Team secretary-general Tendai Biti yesterday scoffed at plans by the MDC-T to have all MPs in his camp recalled from Parliament and accused MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s outfit of playing into Zanu PF’s hands.

Addressing journalists in Harare following reports that the MDC-T had renewed its intention to push out 21 Renewal Team legislators for crossing the floor, Biti claimed that Tsvangirai’s camp was pushing a Zanu PF agenda to reduce the number of opposition MPs in Parliament.

He said his party had evidence of several meetings by some members of the MDC-T and their Zanu PF counterparts to weaken the opposition parties. The motion was introduced in Parliament last week by Buhera West MP Oliver Mandipaka (Zanu PF).

But MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said: “As the MDC, we are acutely aware of the fact that whenever Zanu PF is very happy about whatever we are doing, there is always a catch. Zanu PF is like a leopard, it never changes its spots no matter what. However, this time around, we have a clear and concise strategy that will completely change the political dynamics in this country. Zanu PF will be shocked. Just watch this space.”
