A PRIVATE primary school in Harare, Twin Rivers, in partnership with Miracle Mission Trust yesterday donated 800 desks to Kuwadzana Primary School in Mount Hampden after being touched by the plight of pupils who used concrete slabs as desks.

The donation which benefited more than 900 pupils was part of pupils at the elite school’s initiative to help their less privileged counterparts.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Kuwadzana Primary School head Clemence Mtembwa said the act of kindness would go a long way in enhancing the standards of learning and boosting the pass rate at the school.

“This donation will assist us a lot as it is important that we have a proper sitting and writing arrangement to improve the learning system as well as the pass rate,” he said

Mtembwa also said the school was still in need of more assistance as it is central to the residents of Mount Hampden as compared to other schools which were more than five kilometres away.

Twin Rivers headmistress Blanche Davie said their aim was to inculcate a culture of selflessness in their pupils.

“Our school is very privileged and the children must learn that there are others who are not as privileged as them so they need to be helping them reach their full potential as well. They are in the rural areas and there is lots of poverty so we are saying to them (Twin Rivers pupils), let us give a little because the more you give the better your school will be,” Davie said.

She also said her school has adopted a norm of fundraising twice a year in June and towards year end to help societies around them.

In February this year, the school donated cash to enable the Zimbabwe Special Olympics team to participate at the Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Los Angeles, USA, in July.
