Takwana Madzimure (age not given) of Gideon Village pleaded guilty to axing his sister Ruth Madzimure on the shoulder after she attended a family gathering without invitation.

Madzimure told the court that the meeting was meant to discuss her conduct after she allegedly spread false reports to the effect that he was cheating on his wife.

Although he later apologised and caused the complainant to write a withdrawal affidavit begging the courts to drop the charges, the State proceeded with the trial.

Madzimure was convicted sentenced to a wholly suspended three-month jail term.

According to court papers, on February 27 this year, Madzimure summoned family members for a meeting to discuss Ruth’s alleged conduct.

He, however, got incensed when he saw her approaching his homestead and charged towards her wielding an axe.

The court heard that Madzimure attempted to strike the complainant on the head using the axe, but was, blocked by a relative Josephine Madzimure who was in the company of the complainant.

He later struck her once on the shoulder and assaulted her in the face using clenched fists while pressing her throat in a bid to strangle her.

Other family members then intervened and restrained him. A medical report was produced in court as evidence. Paul Chivesi prosecuted.
