Clad in a white shirt and a pair of trousers, Tuku walked into the hotel plucking his guitar much to the amusement of invited guests.

During his performance, the diners, mainly mature people, could leave their chairs to join the Tozeza Baba singer and his band on the dance floor aping his dances as he belted some of his oldies.

For some guests it was a dream come true dancing alongside one of the country’s celebrated music icon who was a marvel to watch.

With a record of mesmerising guest at his shows, despite his age, Tuku proved that he still has the energy showcasing his well-choreographed dances.

Tuku donated proceeds of the show to WUA, the institution which conferred him with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humane Letters (DHL) by The International Institute of Philanthropy (IIP) in July last year.

The same university also awarded him a MSc. Fine Arts Degree in 2009, citing him as ‘arguably the most powerful creative force to emerge from Zimbabwe in the last three decades.’

WUA Vice Chancellor Hope Sadza, members of the WUA board and council could be seen exhibiting their foot work dancing routine to the sound of Zimbabwe’s legendary musician.

The dinner which targeted the corporate world was aimed at raising funds for the construction of the main campus which is based in Marondera—over 70 kilometres from Harare.

The funds raised will be used to construct the first blocks at the university site at the WUA farm in Marirangwe, Marondera. see picture on Page 20
