A ZAOGA Forward in Faith Church pastor, David Simango, claims that he was physically assaulted by five unidentified men who accused him of supporting homosexuals in one of his sermons during a revival at Chitsvatsva village in Dema last Sunday.

Simango has since filed an assault report at Makoni Police Station in Chitungwiza under CR359/03/15, but the matter has been transferred to Dema Police Station for investigation.

A visibly shaken Simango told NewsDay on Wednesday that the assault had left him “in shock”.

“I do not feel safe as I speak right now because of the attack against me. The gang threatened to come back for me.

They said they would hunt me down because I support homosexuals whom I said are human beings created by God as well,” Simango said.

A detective at Dema Police Station, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed receiving an assault report from Simango, but referred further questions to Police General Headquarters in Harare.

The issue of homosexuals has created mixed feelings in Zimbabwe with President Robert Mugabe repeatedly describing them as “worse than pigs and dogs”.
