Deputy Information and Communication Technology minister Win Mlambo told participants and the Digital Future conference organised by different media players among them Alpha Media Holdings, NetOne and others that the modern world demanded up-to-date leaders to guarantee success.

“Chief executive officers must move from lackluster ways of doing things and move with the times to make their businesses prosper,” Mlambo said.

He concurred with several guest present during the discussions that in the modern world, internet was a human right that should be accessible to all.

“There is nothing you can do without the internet,” he said. Econet digital media manager Veronica Mantiziba said the uptake of internet in Zimbabwe was growing, with more than 250 000 being on Twitter and the number was growing.

ZOL Zimbabwe chief executive officer Denny Marandure said internet was a basic human right that should be available and accessible to all across the globe.

“Internet is a basic human right and we believe it should be accessible to anyone and affordable,” he said.

The two-day conference saw several stakeholders deliberating on the future of digital media, with NetOne boss Reward Kangai saying there were coming up with a 4G network across the country.
