A total of 15 accolades will be up for grabs to the deserving artistes.

Speaking to NewsDay, event organisers Proud Masekesa of P&P Global Marketing said it was important to recognise outstanding achievements in Masvingo’s arts sector.

“With these awards we seek to promote Masvingo artistes as a way of encouraging creative competition in the province so that artistes are able to showcase their best in their different genres,” Masekesa said.

“The stage is set for the awards ceremony with a lot of activities having been lined for the day. I urge music devotees to come in their numbers and witness what Masvingo has got for them.” Masekesa said some of the artistes who are billed to perform at the ceremony include BaShupi, B Kay and Kazz, Youth Cultural Arts Festival director Leeroy Gono, Uncle Jaunda, Kuligan and Calabash among others.

He has, however, bemoaned lack of sponsorship as the biggest challenge they are facing in their quest to honour artistes in Masvingo.

Artistes will be honoured in 15 categories namely The categories of the awards Best New Artiste, Best Gospel Artiste, Best Dancehall Artiste, Best Afropop, Best Hip Hop Artiste, Best Video Producer, Best Roots Artist, Best Music Video, Best Collaboration, Best Featured verse hip hop, Best Hip Hop Single, Best Producer of the year, Best Stage, Performance, Best On stage Act, Best Sportsperson of the year.

The inaugural ceremony was held last year at the Charles Austin Theatre. Among the winners were Noble Stylz born Prince Butawo who won the best hip-hop award, Best video producer; Sydney Spurz, Best roots artistes; Chenai Chaendera, Gospel award; Harvest House Church, Best new artiste; Okeye Swagmore, Best DJ- DJ Sammie, Best dancehall Flexer, Song of the year DJ Hoffie with Superstars, Best on stage; Alchamy.
