LOCAL companies have continued to show confidence in theatre to address HIV and Aids and wellness issues at the workplace, theatre practitioner Tafadzwa Muzondo has said.

Muzondo said this was according to the subscription by more companies to his workplace theatre project AWA PEERS — Aids and Wellness at the Workplace Awareness Peer Educators as Entertainers Refresher Splash.
From just seven companies last year, the subscriptions have so far proven to be more than double for the theatre competition for workplace peer educators which is in its second edition.
“So far more than 10 companies have officially registered to be part of AWA PEERS 2015 with six being subsidiaries of Rainbow Tourism Group which has made sure all its subsidiaries register to participate after winning the first Outstanding Group and the second Outstanding Group (Kadoma Hotel) in our inaugural AWA PEERS last year,” said Muzondo.
“We are elated that our numbers are growing. Judging by the number of companies that have asked for a late registration (until tomorrow), we are likely going to reach our target of 20 companies for this year.”
AWA PEERS 2015, billed for 27 March (World Theatre Day) this year, is now set to take place at Zimbabwe Hall in Highfield as a way of enhancing the interaction of companies with the community in the fight against HIV and Aids.
“We have moved a step further from performing for the companies to training their peer educators to be able to frequently use theatre to educate one another at the workplace on HIV and Aids and wellness realising that our clients might not always have funds to hire us to perform for them as professionals,” he said.

“This is our way of giving back to our clients so that we ensure continuity and sustainability in the fight against HIV and Aids and other ailments at the workplace because apart from the message we give them as outsiders, there is also power in peers exchanging messages among one another at the workplace using theatre.”.
He said this year, three representatives of each company will attend a training workshop on basic playmaking skills by experts in a two day course at National Arts Council Harare Province Offices (Education Services Centre) in Mt.Pleasent on Monday and Tuesday next week.
