CHIVI Rural District Council (CRDC) chairperson Killer Zivhu on Saturday took a swipe at political leaders who renege on their election promises accusing them of shortchanging the electorate.

Addressing a stakeholders’ conference at Chivi Rural District Council offices, Zivhu, who was elected to the local authority on a Zanu PF ticket, said politicians should not take the electorate for granted.
The conference, held under the theme Developing Chivi in Line with ZimAsset, was meant to enable stakeholders to come up with poverty alleviation strategies.
“It is high time for us to deliver as councillors, Members of Parliament, headmen and chiefs for people to see results. People are fed up with promises that are never fulfilled,” Zivhu said.
“People are no longer interested in leaders who are not performing, so let us prove to President Robert Mugabe that we can embrace the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) project without assistance from donors. We cannot expect the President to come here and build toilets and roads for us.”
Zivhu, who is also the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association director-general, said people were tired of officials who have failed to lead by example. He said they must set 2017 as their target to fulfil and implement the developmental projects to bring change in the district.
“With this initiative we want to work with those people who are seriously committed in the development of Chivi district’s infrastructural development among rehabilitation of our roads, schools, drilling of more boreholes, clinics and schools,” he said.
“We have to mobilise own resources to maintain our roads other than wait for government-sponsored food-for-work programmes. The state of our schools and clinics is pathetic and we have leaders whom we voted for who are watching the situation getting worse but not offering any help.”
“About 11 villages use one borehole where there is no a toilet facility, thereby putting their health at risk. This shows that we are not organised as leaders and this must be addressed,” he said.
Zivhu has initiated a number of developmental projects in the district among them Wezhira Ndionewo aimed at providing social services to underprivileged members of the community.
