A drive around Strathaven, Avenues, Dzivaresekwa, Tynwald North and Kuwadzana areas showed that the rains had also uprooted some of the maize crop.

“I was about to sleep when I saw rain water flowing into our cottage. “The flow was so heavy that I had to vacate these premises and spent the night at a friend’s home located on higher ground,” said a Tynwald North resident who refused to identified. “We bought these properties for nearly $40 000, but look what is happening. This was not a fair deal and we feel cheated by these agents because this land is not for residential purposes,” said the woman.

Some houses in the area had their roofs blown off during the storm which lasted nearly two hours, forcing motorists to pull out of the road as the roads were flooded.

In the Braeside area, behind OK Mart water submerged a narrow bridge making it impossible for small cars to manouevre through.

Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said several motorists in the area were marooned and later rescued by the sub-aqua team.
