Webster Musika (30) of Kaitano village in Chief Katerere’s area in Nyanga was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared before Nyanga magistrate Ignatio Mhene.

However, 12 months were suspended on condition that he will not commit a similar offence in the next five years, leaving him with 24 months effective.

It is a State’s case that on February 1 and at Ruwangwe Growth Point in Nyanga, the accused boarded a bus at around 11pm intending to go to Harare.

Musika was holding a black bag and the bus conductor asked him to take his bag to the boot where other bags were loaded, but he refused.

An unpleasant smell coming from the accused alerted the driver. He then tried to inquire what was in the bag, but the accused never responded prompting other passengers to confiscate his bag.

It was at that point when it was discovered that Musika was carrying dagga. He was taken to Ruwangwe Police Station where he was subsequently arrested.

The State submitted that Musika had no lawful right to act in the manner that he did. Zivanai Gombarume prosecuted.
