“I can confirm that Mathe is one of the assistant coaches. The head coach will see how he will make adjustments to the technical team, but Mathe is confirmed as one of the assistant coaches,” said club chief executive Joe Makuvire.

The former Bosso coach has been in Harare for the past week and has been attending Caps United training sessions raising speculation he was in line for the job of assistant coach.

However, the Caps United management could not disclose the former Highlanders coach had been offered the job only saying he was one of the candidates. Club CEO Joe Makuvire said during a Press conference in Harare last week that they had a vacancy for an assistant coach.

“We have a vacancy for an assistant coach and Mathe is just one of the candidates.” .

“We are still waiting for the arrival of the head coach Mark Harrison. He has been given permission to work in Zimbabwe today and we are now working on logistics to have him come and start work. We expect him to be here in Harare on Friday.”

Mathe was Highlanders coach last season, but he was eventually sacked following a spate of poor results. He joins a technical team that has Englishman Harrison as the football manager with Brenna Msiska — a goalkeepers’ coach, who has been the first assistant likely to be asked to confine himself to his duties of a goalkeeper’s trainer while Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi who was the second assistant is likely to be retained in that capacity making it a balanced technical team.

Harrison will have a chance to gauge the strength of his team when Caps United play against Dynamos in the Sino-Zim friendly match at Rufaro on Sunday.
