Three of the of the suspects –Thomas Mhlanga (39), Simbarashe Manyika (28) and Mduduzi Mlilo (age not given) — were arrested last Friday and were remanded in custody to February 26 when they appeared in court on Saturday.

Their alleged fourth accomplice, Tatenda Innocent Mawisire, who was arrested at his Kadoma home on Valentine’s Day, appeared in court on Monday and was also remanded in custody to February 26.

The State alleges that the four stormed Chihwendere’s home in Westend just after midnight on February 8 this year and robbed him of 1 105 grammes of gold and $20 000 cash at gunpoint.

Mawisire, however, denied the charge, telling presiding magistrate Taurai Manwere that he was attending a funeral at his rural Murehwa home when the alleged robbery occurred.

“I was not around on the day the crime was committed I was in Murehwa attending a funeral of my relative who had passed away. What I know is that Morris, Simbarashe and Austin committed the crime,” Mawisire said in his warned-and-cautioned statement presented in court.
