ZANU PF has warned ousted party secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa against standing as the ruling party candidate in the Headlands constituency by-elections, saying he remained fired and described his intentions as absurd.

Mutasa vowed to contest on a Zanu PF ticket representing Headlands, insisting he was representing the real party and not recognising the “December 2014” Zanu PF that he claimed illegally assumed power during the congress. Mutasa told NewsDay on Wednesday that he would be contesting the elections as the “original Zanu PF”.
But party spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said the former Presidential Affairs minister was “being absurd” to think he could represent Zanu PF in the Headlands by-election.
“Comrade Mutasa had been a member of Zanu PF for a long time until his expulsion a few days ago. He knows the rules and regulations of the party and the reasons for his expulsion. Mutasa remains expelled from Zanu PF and he can never, therefore, represent the party in any by-election or any election for that matter,” he said.
Khaya Moyo said Mutasa was peddling falsehoods and “whistling in the graveyard” by using the media.
The party spokesperson did not respond to reports that he was in the firing line for his alleged continued allegiance to the faction led by ousted Vice-President Joice Mujuru.
He is said to be in trouble and might find himself jobless soon when President Robert Mugabe makes a Cabinet reshuffle.
