Thomas News told the court he was unable to pay $150 maintenance claimed by his former wife Lister Tendai Mungofa with who he sired a child last May.

News said he had three other wives and six children to look after in addition to his chronically ill parents and other dependants.

News also said his $432 salary was heavily depleted as he was paying $90 monthly towards servicing a bank loan.

But Mungofa refuted his claims labeling him a “liar”.

She told the court that she knew only three other children who he also neglected.

News interjected and shocked the court saying he had actually fathered one of his six children with Mungofa’s best friend following an illicit love affair.

Presiding magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba challenged News to produce birth certificates for the children in dispute, forcing him to backtrack from his earlier claim.

The court ordered him to pay $62 monthly maintenance effective March 1.
