RODRECK Mutuma has revealed he grew up supporting Harare football giants Caps United and that it is a dream come true for him to join them. BY TAWANDA TAFIRENYIKA
The former Dynamos striker sealed an emotional move to his former team’s arch rivals, on Monday in a surprise development.
And the 26-year-old striker yesterday said: “I feel at home.
“It’s a dream come true to get this opportunity to play for Caps United, the team I grew up supporting. Caps United is my childhood team and am happy to join them.”
He also disclosed he was unhappy with the way he had been treated by Dynamos.
“I really wanted to play for Dynamos, but it didn’t work out. The sticking point was centred on money, but I thought they no longer wanted me as well.
I had been training with them, hoping to be given a contract extension, but I just came one day and I was told I was not supposed to be training with the team anymore,” Mutuma said.
“It’s the nature of the game. So I had no choice, but to make a decision and I think I have made the right decision to join Caps United. Life has to go on and I hope to do well here. I am employed as a striker and hope to score goals,” the lanky striker said.

A Golden Boot winner in 2012, Mutuma signed a two-year contract with the option of a one-year renewal.
Mutuma, who had been training with Dynamos in recent weeks, could be in line for his Caps United debut on Sunday when the two teams clash in the inaugural 2015 Sino-Zimbabwe Cement friendly match, organised to celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Zimbabwean and Chinese communities.
The two parties had been negotiating since Mutuma’s contract expired on December 31 and the prolonged contract negotiations put Dynamos coach David Mandigora off.
While Dynamos were still insisting the door was still open for the player to remain at the club, Mandigora last week said he had already made his plans for the upcoming season without Mutuma.
Caps United said they would announce two more major signings this week.
A number of players have been trying their luck at the Harare giants including former Shabanie Mine goalkeeper Victor Twaliki, former striker Leonard Tsipa, centreback Charles Mutero, Harare City trio of Arnold Chaka, Witness Nyamutsaka, Tongai Chiworeso, former Shabanie Mine forward Carlos Mesi and Scholar Hadebe who was at Chiredzi FC last term, among others.
However, coach Mark Harrison is still to assess the players before finalising the squad to be submitted to the Premier Soccer League for registration. He will have the opportunity to have a look at most of the players in a game situation on Sunday when his team face Dynamos in the inaugural friendly match.
