After being remanded out of custody on bail, Precious Kanyemba, of Chinhanga village in Seke, queried whether she would still get the $1 owed by Rumbidzai Chimonjo (31) for a packet of dried kapenta fish (matemba).

“Is she going to pay the dollar that she owes me for matemba because I still want it?” Kanyemba asked drawing laughter from the gallery.

Circumstances leading to Kanyemba’s arrest were that on Thursday last week at around 5pm a misunderstanding arose between the two women after Chimonjo had borrowed a packet of kapenta from Kanyemba and promised to pay within a month.

The two exchanged words after Kanyemba had asked for her money from Chimonjo who in turn referred her back to her (Kanyemba) son who had also borrowed buns worth R7 from her (Chimonjo) a few weeks earlier.

This did not go down well with Kanyemba who got angry and assaulted the pregnant woman by pushing her to the ground, sitting on top of her and punching her on the face.

It is also alleged, she stoned her while she was still on the ground and injured her left eye.

She was only stopped from further assaulting Chimonjo by one Francis Kamanga.

Chimonjo sustained a swollen left eye and the matter was reported to the police leading to Kanyemba’s arrest.

Innocent Tizirai appeared for the State and Jessy Kufa is presiding over the matter.
