Mire, who arrived in the country on Friday before joining his teammates in camp, was rewarded for his strong performances in Bangladesh with a place in Zimbabwe’s squad for the global showpiece.

The 25-year-old Australia-based star said: “It is definitely a great honour to represent your country at any level let alone the biggest stage, so I’m quite honoured, excited and obviously very privileged in getting the opportunity. Many dream about the opportunity to represent the millions of people back home.

“By the same token I’m grateful to the selection panel that showed faith in me and gave me an opportunity in Bangladesh and now the World Cup and am looking forward to a great experience with the boys and playing some competitive games of cricket,” he said.

Mire said he was confident his teammates would find it easy to adjust to the conditions expected in the hosting countries.

“From my experience I think there’s pressure enough to perform every time one goes out to play and putting too much emphasis on conditions, although important can also add unnecessary pressure.

“So I suppose I can relate a little bit of information on what I think the guys can expect over there, what has worked for me and what adjustments I had to make which could differ from person to person, in fact I think guys will enjoy the conditions with both bat and ball,” he said.

Mire, who has previously played for Mid-West Rhinos in the domestic franchise league, will be eager to score some runs for the Kwekwe-based when the Pro50 Championship resumes on Wednesday.

Struggling Rhinos, with just one 50-over win this season will be hoping for better fortunes when they host inform Mash Eagles while Mountaineers host Matabeleland Tuskers in Mutare.
