Mash Eagles, Mat Tuskers clash

THE domestic cricket league finally resumes after a month-
long break with two scheduled Pro 50 Championship matches lined up in Harare and Mutare today.

The league took a break for the festive season before it was deferred again to pave way for the four one-day matches between Zimbabwe A and Canada which concluded on Monday.

In the pick of today’s matches Mashonaland Eagles host rivals Matabeleland Tuskers at Harare Sports Club while Kwekwe-based Mid West Rhinos travel to Mutare to face Mountaineers.

The Wayne James-coached Tuskers side will be looking to continue their consistent run of form as they currently set the early pace in both the Logan Cup and the Pro50 competitions.

In the last round of fixtures before the month-long break, Tuskers put on an utterly dominant display against Mash Eagles, cruising to a crushing 230-run demolition in the country’s premier first class competition, the Logan Cup at Queens Sports Club on December 12.

The victory saw Tuskers consolidating their lead on the four-team table with 17 points from three matches followed by Mountaineers with nine points.

Mash Eagles is third with eight points while Mid West Rhinos anchor the Logan Cup log with six points.

Five days earlier Tuskers had yet again got the better of Mash Eagles by three wickets in a low scoring Pro50 Championship encounter to maintain their unbeaten record.

Meanwhile Mountaineers, who occupy second place in both formats behind early pacesetters Tuskers, will be hoping to gain some ground on their rivals when they host struggling Mid West Rhinos.

Kwekwe-based Rhinos have had a disastrous start to the season and are yet to register a single win in the Pro50 Championship after losing their first three matches while they have just one win from as many matches in the Logan Cup.
