The miners are a mere three weeks away from embarking on their second African Safari campaign.

Pure Platinum Play has been doing their workout in the absence of head coach Norman Mapeza who is furthering his coaching credentials in Harare.

But his assistant, Patrick Mandizha, said all was going according to plan as he was working with his boss’s plan.

“We always plan ahead as the technical department. The coach (Mapeza) was here when we set out our pre-season plans. So we are working with what he has told us to do and his absence is not much of a setback.

“Last week, we were working on endurance and the players seem to have reached the required fitness levels. We are confident that the team is now at a level that it can compete but there is still a lot of work still needs to be done though,” Mandizha said.

Mandizha also allayed injury concerns on their last season’s best player Thabani Kamusoko who was stretchered off during their training ground practice match against Chapungu on Wednesday afternoon. “He was feeling some discomfort on his hamstring, so we decided he stops before he gets injured.

“He told us that he is now feeling fine, but you never know with these muscle strains and we have requested that he get some medical check-ups,” Mandizha said.

Pure Platinum Play is scheduled to host Bantu Rovers in another friendly match set for Mandava Stadium this weekend.

There is also some encouraging news from the playing staff, especially former league top goal scorer Nelson Maziwisa, who seems to have rediscovered his touches of brilliance.

The former top scorer could not find the target in the few minutes he played against Chapungu, but his runs on and off the ball were excellent.
