Confront Zanu PF dictatorship — Biti

MDC RENEWAL Team secretary-general Tendai Biti yesterday urged Zimbabweans to embark on mass protests to dislodge what he termed the “predatory” Zanu PF

MDC RENEWAL Team secretary-general Tendai Biti yesterday urged Zimbabweans to embark on mass protests to dislodge what he termed the “predatory” Zanu PF government for failing to address a myriad of problems affecting the country.

MOSES MATENGA STAFF REPORTER Biti told journalists in Harare that Zanu PF was “heartless” and “clueless” in addressing Zimbabwe’s challenges as the party was embroiled in bitter succession fights and “internal cannibalism” at the expense of the ordinary people.

“Therefore, the onus is thus on the people of Zimbabwe to free themselves by confronting the Zanu PF dictatorship. Zanu PF is not interested in dialogue and in respecting the citizen. Therefore, it is up to the people to use their constitutional rights and confront Zanu PF,” Biti said.

“After all, section 67 of the national Constitution bestows full political rights to every citizen to demonstrate and petition peacefully. It’s time for Zimbabwe to stand up! We will see the last supper actions. They are going to steal as if they are on drugs in 2015. There will be a lot of sideshows to entertain and divert attention from real issues of the day, the Gamatox and other sideshows.”

He said his party was calling for the immediate resignation of the Zanu PF government and allow for the coming-in of a team of technocrats with a view to rebuilding the country.

Biti also said the all-party convergence conference set for March should be spearheaded by churches and civic society organisations and not by people with “tattered images” in apparent reference to MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
