Makandiwa ploughs back $200 000 to former school

UFIC founder Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa on Thursday retraced his roots back to the community where he grew up when he handed over three furnished classroom blocks, textbooks and a borehole, all worth $200 000, to Muringazuva Primary School in Muzarabani.

The UFIC leader also electrified the school which has an enrolment of 620 pupils so that it keeps tabs with modern trends.

Makandiwa, who did his infancy education at the Methodist in Zimbabwe Church-run school some years back, said he felt the urge to help in 2012 after he toured the school and observed that some pupils were conducting lessons under trees due to a critical shortage of classrooms.

And true to his word, in June 2013 he sunk a borehole and sent a construction team which built the classrooms within a record 30 days. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Primary and Secondary Education minister Lazarus Dokora commended Makandiwa for ploughing back into the community which raised him.

“It brings us face-to-face with Prophet Makandiwa with the singular vision and a particular mission to his people of God. I am aware that most of our rural schools are still facing shortages of various kinds even though as we speak efforts are underway to mitigate some of them,” Dokora said.

“This donation underlines the fact that his commitment is total and cherished. He chose education when he could have chosen another sector. This contribution will impact positively on the universalisation of access to education for all our people.”

Dokora urged parents to utilise fully the borehole and engage in agricultural activities so that the entire community benefited. The headmaster, Herbester Chibwe, said: “We would like to thank the prophet for his gesture and passion and love for children and may they extend this gesture to many other schools in the country.”
