The just-released Zimsec November 2014 A’Level results analysis shows that a few students are taking up science subjects at a time the country is expected to be building a base for innovation.
Only 277 students sat for the Computer science exam compared to 15669 who sat for the English exams. Specialised subjects like art, and textile and design had less than 120 candidates, a fact that can be subscribed- although not empirically researched- to the shortage of teachers who teach the “high end” subjects.
