ZIMBABWE international Zimiseleni Moyo completed a football league and cup double, albeit from the sidelines, when his FAZ/MTN champions Zesco United won the Barclays Cup on Saturday with a resounding 3-0 victory over Nkana at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Last week, Moyo picked up the league winners medal when Zesco were crowned the Zambian champions and will now play in the Caf Champions League next season.

On both weekends, the former Railstars leftback and the only Zimbabwean in the Zambian Super League sat out the matches due to injuries, which have bogged him for the better part of the season.

Maybin Mwaba, Winston Kalengo and substitute Simon Silwimba scored the goals for the dominant Zesco.

The victory means coach George “Chicken” Lwandamina became the first coach to win back-to-back Barclays Cup titles with two different teams having achieved success with Red Arrows the previous season.

In South Africa, former Dynamos goalkeeper George Chigova picked his first medal when SuperSport United beat Platinum Stars 3-2 after extra-time in the Telkom Knockout final at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Chigova, also a Warriors goalkeeper, joined the Tshwane-based side this season, but has played second fiddle to 22-year-old Ronwen Williams, who saved a penalty in extra time in the Saturday’s final.

Quincy Antipas’ Hobro lost 1-0 to Randers on Sunday in the Danish top-flight with the Zimbabwean international playing 73 minutes of the match. Hobro dropped to seventh place on the standings.

Silas Songani’s Sonderjyske drew 0-0 Esberg in the same league with the former Harare City man on the bench.

In the Czech Republic, Costa Nhamoinesu’s Sparta Praha kept up the pressure on leaders Viktoria Plzen as they beat Vysočina Jihlava 2-0 with the Zimbabwean international, as usual, playing the entire match. Sparta remained in second place with 37 points, one behind Plzen.

In the Botswana beMobile top-flight league, Madinda Ndlovu’s Township Rollers is pummeling team left right and centre and the latest victims were Orapa United, who were given a 6-1 hiding.

Goalscorers included Maano Ditshupo (brace), Kobamelo Kenbaikanye, Motsholetsi Sikele, Jerome Lewis and South African international Manqoba Ngwenya. Orapa United’s consolation goal was netted by Hendrick Moyo.

From 12 matches, Ndlovu’s side is yet to lose having won nine and drawn three times to sit at the top with 35 points, five away from second placed BMC. In fact, the former Warriors and Highlanders star, is unbeaten in two seasons and is looking to win his fourth league title in a row.

He won two with Mochudi Centre Chiefs and last season triumphed with Rollers. Rahman Gumbo’s Gaborone United sit in sixth place with 21 points, having won six, drawn three and lost three. Over the weekend, GU were held to a 0-0 draw by Police X1.

In the same league, Zimbabwean goalkeeper Takudzwa Ndoro could Mochudi Centre Chiefs from BDF X1 after he was suspended on November 5. Ndoro is a twin brother to Mpumalanga Black Aces of South Africa striker Tendai.

According to reports from Mmegi, Takudzwa was placed on an indefinite suspension on November 5 over a disciplinary matter and since then, he is yet to return to action.

The Zimbabwean goalkeeper made a trip home without the club’s consent ahead of a crucial Mascom Top 8 clash against Police XI citing he had to attend to a “family emergency”, incurring the wrath of the army side.
