FINALLY, there is going to be Castle Lager Premiership football action in Rusape next season.

This after Buffalo Junior won promotion from the Eastern Region Division One Football league with a convincing 3-1 win over Mwenezana at Vhengere Stadium.

Most of the fans were used to travelling over 90km to Mutare to watch top-flight league side Buffaloes at Sakubva, but can now claim ownership of the Francis Dongo-powered side, that is also known as Dongo Sawmills.

They ended the season with unassailable 67 points while second-placed Mutare City Rovers who defeated Gutu 3-0 in Masvingo ended the campaign with 65 points.

Gangling striker Vincent Makaka scored a brace with a goal in each half while forgotten striker Evans Chikwaikwai solitary goal was sandwiched by Makaha’s goals.

The club’s sole financier Dongo is not new to Premiership promotion battles.

Rewind three years back the Nyanga-based businessman who supports football in Manicaland with passion was also part of stakeholders who pooled the little resources available to win Premiership promotion for Mutare army side Buffaloes.

“As you are aware I am not new to Premiership jungles. I have been there before and I know what it takes to be in the Premier League. Actually I am happy that I have managed to lead this team into Premier league, but I also believe that we have achieved this collectively,” he said.

“Our players, community, other stakeholders did a good job and we are now looking forward for next season,” he added.

The side’s head coach Shadreck Magurasave who also lead Buffaloes into Premier League in 2011 was over the moon after writing another success story in his hometown of Rusape.

“I don’t have much to say as I want to leave everything to my bosses, but I am actually happy after winning another Division title,” he said.

The gaffer is linked to replace Moses Chunga at Buffaloes as the side’s head coach next season to cut costs at the financially unstable army side, according to impeccable sources at the club.
