Pee Kay took home the Best Male Artiste Award, Song of the Year and Best Newcomer.

But the glitches at the event did more harm to the event that has always been regarded as questionable by the practitioners of the genre.

Pee Kay was, however, elated by his achievement and said he would today throw a party in the capital.

“It’s amazing. Who does that? I am Zimbabwe’s Diamond. Tanzanian Diamond took three at the Channel O Music Awards and Pee Kay won three in Zimbabwe. We are going to Channel O next,” he said.

“I know people are saying I do not deserve the awards and all, but I got them. I am business minded and I am going ahead.”

Best female hip hop artiste Blackbird said even though she won the ceremony left a lot to be desired.

“Despite winning in the best female category, I still need to be objective and I won’t mince my words. Zimbabwean awards organisers really need to pull up their socks and do a proper job,” she said.

“Seems to me it is obvious all Zimbabwean awards ceremonies are a sham and this country still has a long way to go. The selection criteria of winners is shady, events are generally disorganised and popularity is rewarded where hard work, skill and production value should be.

“And I am not just referring to my award, just like at the National Arts Merit Awards and Zimbabwe Music Awards there were other winners who left a bad taste in my mouth as they did not really strike me as the deserving winners.”

Rapper Maskiri also posted on his Facebook wall that the organisers of the Zim Hip Hop Awards should stop inviting him to their awards.
