Own Correspondent FLEDGING hospitality group Hotel & Leisure Africa (HALA) has taken over one of Kadoma’s oldest hotels, Speck’s, on a long-term lease agreement.

The entity, situated in the mining city’s central business district, has been rebranded HALA Select Kadoma Hotel.

General manager Mudzingwa Zambuko confirmed the deal on Monday, but could not be drawn to disclose its value.

“HALA has indeed taken over the hotel on a lease agreement with the former owners, the Mahovo family. We are excited about the deal which we fervently hope will transform the hospitality industry in the town,” Zambuko said.

The double-storey property is currently undergoing a major facelift to restore the old English-style building to its glory days, he said.

Select Kadoma Hotel, envisaged to be a 2-star facility, would offer a low-cost budget for guests seeking dining, conferencing and accommodation services.

“Our strategy is to demystify the hotel experience by offering attractive packages with our average daily rate pegged at $35,” Zambuko added.

The hotel is expected to be fully operational by mid-January next year.

Zambuko said the “ladies-of-the-night” who used to patronise the hotel had been kicked out in a bid to redeposit decency and the hotel’s image.

The HALA group, led by executive chairman Cornelius Nyahunda, was incepted in 2010 and has lately been on a whirlwind acquisition of “tired” hotels and revamping them in franchise deals, management contracts and leases.

Under the group’s portfolio locally are Select Selous Hotel, Jacaranda City Lodge, Select Kimberley, Select Karoi, Select Cecil, Select Omadu, among others.

HALA also has operations in Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique and Ghana.
