This was revealed by Buffaloes’ chairman Hlanganiso Matangaidze during an interview with NewsDay Sport yesterday.

Chunga’s contract is ending on December 31 and there were reports that it would not be renewed after he failed to meet the club’s season objective of a top-eight finish.

The army side finished on 10th position, surviving relegation on the last day of the season with a 2-1 win over Hwange at Sakubva Stadium. However, despite failing to meet the target, it appears the club’s executive has decided to give the nomadic coach another chance to impress.

And after an executive meeting over the weekend, another contract would be tabled to Chunga in the coming few days.

“We had a meeting with other club’s executive members. It was just our usual meetings to discuss the state of affairs at the club. I am happy that the meeting went on very well,” Matangaidze said.

“On the issue of the coach, we have decided to renew his contract which is set to expire on December 31. The coach is very happy at the club and we always want to keep the coach happy,” he added.

The news would come as a big relief to Chunga, whose post was already linked with Shadreck Mugurasave who guided Dongo Sawmills to Premiership this year.

The move to hire Mugurasave at the army side was aimed to reduce costs since he is employed as a soldier.
