Muteuro Munyuki from Chigumbu Plot, Kimcote Farm in Beatrice appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Lazarus Murendo on Monday facing a murder charge. Murendo remanded Munyuki in custody to December 19.

Prosecutor Edmund Ndambakuwa told the court that early this month at Zururu Plot, Kimcote Farm, the accused person was in the company of the now deceased Lovemore Mutarautswa and one Charles Ropowa as they headed home.

It is the State’s case that the accused person started demanding his Nokia 1200 cellphone which he had given to the now deceased person who failed to produce it.

A heated argument ensued between the two, leading to Munyuki assaulting the now deceased with logs.

Further allegations are that Munyuki stripped naked the now deceased and continued to assault him several times on his body with logs, leading to his death. The court heard that Ropowa, who was in their company, witnessed the whole incident and even tried to refrain the accused person from what he was doing to no avail.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Munyuki’s arrest the following day.

Three logs allegedly used to assault the deceased were recovered at the scene of crime.
