ZAE is one of the major exhibitions on the art calendar of Zimbabwe as it has continued to grow since its launch in 1958.

It is running without a particular theme due to the diversity of the artists featuring at the exhibition.

The exhibition features the best and budding visual artists in Zimbabwe, and consists of mixed media, paintings and sculptures. Of the 443 artworks that were submitted, they were narrowed down to the 91 pieces that are currently on exhibition.

On Friday night, Langa opened the north wing of the National Art Gallery that was renamed Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) Gallery in recognition of the work MMCZ has done over the years in the promotion of visual art and safe-guarding the nation’s heritage.

Some of the artists featured in the exhibition are Franklyn Dzingai, Julius Mushambadope, John Kotze, Portia Zvavahera, Daryl Nero, Prince Matsika and many more.

Tawanda Takura’s piece titled Unfinished Thoughts, made of the rubber soles, is one of major highlights of this exhibition.

Unfinished Thoughts was awarded the first prize on the evening, as one of the best art works.
