ZANU PF Hurungwe East MP Sarah Mahoka yesterday ordered Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs minister Faber Chidarikire to publicly apologise

ZANU PF Hurungwe East MP Sarah Mahoka yesterday ordered Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs minister Faber Chidarikire to publicly apologise over his weekend gaffe where he “jokingly” addressed Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxilia, as Acting First Lady.

Chidarikire made the alleged offensive remarks while introducing Auxilia at a Zanu PF celebration party at Chinhoyi Unversity of Technology in Chinhoyi last Saturday. Several party officials immediately expressed their displeasure at the prank which they described as tantamount to anointing her First Lady Grace Mugabe’s successor.

“I was just joking,” Chidarikire later said, although the damage had already been done.

Mahoka yesterday said Chidarikire’s remarks were in bad taste as they came shortly after the expulsion of former Vice-President Joice Mujuru on charges of plotting to topple President Robert Mugabe.

“No woman can be equated to our only anointed Amai Mugabe. She is an angel sent to this country to liberate all women and men. She is anointed by the spirit of Ambuya Nehanda,” Mahoka said.

“Noone can fit her (First Lady’s) shoes and even her deputy Sandi Moyo cannot call for a Women’s League meeting without the First Lady’s consent”.

Another Mashonaland West Provincial Women’s’ League member who refused to be identified for fear of victimisation said she was angered by the “joke”.

Chidarikire could not be contacted over Mahoka’s demand for a public apology.

Since Mnangagwa was elevated to the position of Vice-President, several party bigwigs have fallen over each other to hero-worship him with Psychomotor minister Josiah Hungwe describing him as the “Son of Man”.
